Cool Bop Phonics is the end result of a cooperative effort that took many generous contributions of time and creative input from musicians based in the New York Metro and surrounding Tri-State area.
A brainchild of Stamford (Ct) native Gerard Diacri, the concept evolved over several months at the popular club "Robin Hood's" in Stamford where a number of musicians rotated through a series of "blowin" friday night concerts and jam sessions. Here, cover tunes and originals alike had a fresh, robust feel that was infectious as the clientel grew and word spread. Soon, more and more musicians started showing up at these sessions. Alan Eicher and Tony Cimorosi were among the regulars along with Kim Plainfield, Rodney Holmes, Bill Bickford, Ken Gioffre, Mike Nunno, Van Manakas, Herb Clay, Andy Potter, and a host of others too numerous to mention.
Great times were had by all and it was decided to "immortalize" some of them on CD. "I Hear Talkin'", "Falling North", "Pacifica", "Buster's Blues", and "Laketown" are all from the prolific and virtuous pen of Alan Eicher. "DK Dance" and "Latino" were graciously contributed by Bill Bickford. Apologies, by the way to Bill for the mis-spelling of Bigfood Music (not Bigfoot, Oops!). The intense and very happening tune "Boat People" is by Kim Plainfield. Kim Plainfield and Dan Carillo also wrote "Commando Search".
So, check out some of the samples, order up a CD, and ENJOY!!
